Visit to Taliesin West

An unexpected benefit of our trip to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl was a stop by Taliesin West, where Frank Lloyd Wright spent the last 20 or so years of his life. The 90-minute tour was informative and fascinating. Here are a couple of photos. The rest can be found here.

You always hear a couple of criticisms about the practicality of Wright’s designs: that the ceilings are low and the roofs leak. I can attest to both after bumping my head in one of the bedrooms, and getting dripped on in the living room. It was an honor.

It’s interesting that Wright has been dead for nearly 50 years, but the modernity of his work is still striking. I wonder how it must have felt in the 1930s and 1940s when it debuted?
