Via Michael Corcoran in the Statesman’s Austin Music Source blog comes the very exciting news that The Reivers, my favorite Austin band of all time, is reuniting on Feb. 9 at The Parish.
Back in the mid-1980s, they were known as Zeitgeist, but had to change their name after a New Age band laid claim to that name. I saw the band several times during my UT days, back when guitars jangled with no sense of irony.
Back then, I recall a couple of factions forming in the Austin music scene: Either you liked Zeitgeist/The Reivers, with their harmonies and catchy songs, or you liked The True Believers, with their multi-guitar attack featuring Javier and Alejandro Escovedo and Jon Lee Graham.
I’ll definitely be there at the reunion show, happily singing along with “Secretariat”, “Araby” and many more.

I take it the Feb 9th show went as planned? Man, if somebody could talk them into a reunion tour, now that’d be cool.
My favorite Reivers tune is either “Freight Train Rain” or “Inside Out.”
I once paid $50 for a rare CD copy of “End of the Day.”

I am certain these shows were taped - does anybody know where to track down the audio of either or both shows?
