Two Austin publications were honored at the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies Awards last week. The Austin Chronicle won third place in the Ad Design category, while the Chronicle’s Kevin Brass won third in the Media Reporting/Criticism category for his Media Watch columns. The Chronicle’s online group won second place in the Website Content Feature category for “Am I McMansion or Not?”.

The Texas Observer’s Steven G. Kellman won a second-place award in the Arts Criticism category, while Matt Omohundro’s work won the Observer a tie for third in Cover Design.

The ceremony also included a special tribute to Molly Ivins, along with an new award in her name, which went to commentator Keith Olbermann.
