The Truemor Mill

A couple of weeks ago, I began posting to the password-protected version of Truemors, a site that allows you to “post your rumors, news, and sightings, and anyone with web access can read and rate them within minutes.”

Noted venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki is behind the site, which went public yesterday. It’s garnered a lot of negative reaction, and for the past two days, the site appears to be battling a flood of spammers. In his review of the site yesterday TechCrunch’s Mike Arrington pointed out that the 10 available categories on the site may be too broad to appeal to any particular group,

I enjoyed posting there in the last two weeks, and think that the features of rating, commenting and sharing, while not necessarily new, definitely add value. Also, the ability to post via the web, email, text message, or phone is a cool addition. I’ll admit that I’m a little hesitant to post there now, worried that a legitimate post will get quickly buried in the flood of pranks and spam from the Internet mob. I’ll keep an eye on things over there and see what develops.
