Texas Monthly Wins 11 National Awards

Texas Monthly won 11 awards at the 22nd Annual National City and Regional Magazine Awards competition last week, including including top honorsvin excellence in writing, excellence in design, cover and special issues.

The magazine came in just behind Los Angeles magazine in number of overall awards, and the LA mag also won gold in general excellence for its circulation category.

Texas Monthly won gold awards for:

  • Excellence in Writing for its September issue (Football!)
  • Excellence in Design and Best Cover for its June issue (Lakes)
  • Special Issues for its “Texans at War” March issue

The magazine also won five second-place, silver awards, for:

  • General Excellence (circulation over 60,000)
  • Writer of the Year: Skip Hollandsworth
  • Regular Column: Michael Ennis
  • Feature Design: “Dell Freezes Over”
  • Photo Essay: “Open Season”

Texas Monthly also won a Bronze award in the Photo Essay category for its “Wings” feature, while Michael Hall’s story, “Free Richard Lafuente!”, won a Bronze in the Reporting category.
