Texas Monthly has printed an online preview of editor Evan Smith’s interview with Gov. Rick Perry. The two spoke on March 8, and in an editor’s note, Smith writes:
His answers were fascinating and, we ultimately decided, too of-the-moment to wait five weeks or more to share with you. So we’re previewing the interview now, online, in the hope that the governor’s very provocative comments will inform and illuminate the ongoing conversation on these and other issues.
This is a wise move on the magazine’s part and one that I hope they do more of.
In other Texas Monthly news, the magazine was named as a finalist in the General Excellence category for the 2007 National Magazine Awards. Texas Monthly faces off against The Atlantic Monthly, Audubon, Cookie Magazine, and New York Magazine in the 250,000 to 500,000 circulation division.
