National Scene: Gannett Restructuring Newsrooms: Google to Sell Newspaper Ads
Two big stories around digital media and the future of newspapers have emerged in the past few days. There’s plenty of info about them out on the Web, but I wanted to provide a couple of pointers to get you started:
- Gannett to Crowdsource News: The publisher of USA Today and 90 other daily newspapers is restructuring the newsroom as an “information center”, where instead of being organized into separate metro, state or sports departments, the staff will now work within one of seven desks with names like “data,” “digital” and “community conversation.”
- Newspapers to Test Plan to Sell Ads on Google: Google will act as an independent sales rep to sell advertisements that will appear in the print editions of 50 major newspapers.
