I ran across a pair of stories today around University of Texas sports.
The first was this Sports Illustrated story on the new high-definition scoreboard at the football stadium. The scoreboard, affectionately referred to as “Godzillatron”, measures 55 feet tall by 134 feet wide and is, for now, the largest HDTV in the world. I’ll get to see it in action on Saturday when Texas opens the football season against North Texas.
The second was this report on how UT has set a new NCAA record for merchandise sales. The school made $8.2 million in royalties last year selling T-shirts, jerseys and other merchandise with Longhorns logos. I don’t believe, however, that figure includes the sales of Floozies.
