Web Gaining Ground in Advertising, Reach

A couple of items in today’s news about the progress that online media is making in advertising and audience reach:

Online Newspaper Ads Gaining Ground on Print: In the first quarter of this year, newspaper print ad spending increased 0.3 percent, while online ad spending increased 35 percent. In actual dollars, spending for online ads is still only a fraction of the amount spent in print ($613 million for online in the first quarter of 2006; $10.5 billion for print). It’s also the eighth straight quarter of growth for online ads.

OPA Study Says Online Is No. 2 At-Home Medium: TV is #1 at home, of course, followed by Web. The Web is #1 at work, interestingly, followed by radio. Also, “Today the Web reaches just over 60% of people for about two hours a day; 10 years ago it reached 10% for less than an hour. TV, by contrast, reaches 90% of people for more than four hours.”
